Hello, Chapter Members and all
the Alpha Family!
Highlights of this issue:
Spring Fling Dinner-Dance/15th Anniversary
celebration
Reunion of 60s Grads – Alpha/STGC
True Blue Week-end
July Truck Stop Social
Annual General Meeting
Mission Healthy Alpha 2010
Our Gala SPRING FLING
DINNER DANCE celebrating the 15th
Anniversary of our
Association brought
many together from far and
wide. It was a chockfull
evening as the graduates of the
Sixties of both Alpha and St.
Georges celebrated their Reunion
with us, and we spotlighted 9
honorees who have been extremely
supportive of our many outreach
programs for our Alma Mater over
the years. Recognition was also
given to Mrs. June Chin, the
founder of the Chapter and Mrs.
Olga Azan, President Emeritus.
The Mighty Vikings Band and DJ Bonnitto did not ease up
for one second. The dance floor was rocking and the food
was kicking! It was a great night of revelry, the love
and warmth in reacquainting with classmates was
infectious and it was ‘grand slam’ camaraderie.
BOUNTIFUL THANKS TO ALL!!

REUNION PICNIC
ALPHA/STGC GRADS OF THE 60'S |
|
With the help of ample applications of BEN-GAY after
moving to the beat of the music at Spring Fling 2010,
the 60’s Grads were able to make it to a Thanksgiving
Mass on Sunday morning at St. Edward Catholic Church,
giving thanks for a safe and successful weekend, for all
blessings and for each other.
Monsignor Michael Eivers, the celebrant, gave a special
farewell blessing to the group who then headed to
John U. Lloyd State Park under stormy skies.
With pouring rain, DJ Larry Lee added his 'lightning'
of scintillating 60’s top ten music, and the group
”danced up a storm” down 'Memory Lane'. Despite the
showers and the drenching, everyone had a grand time:
good food, great music. The love and camaraderie were
palpable and echoes of "wi mus do it again'
reverberated.

What an eventful weekend! The first (and
hopefully annual) True Blue weekend was the brainchild
of a lively group of alumni/alumnae from STGC, Andrews,
JC and Alpha. Alpha was represented by Jennifer
Figueroa and Addy Chin- O’Gilvie. The liming and
palancing began Friday night at the True Blue Mixer,
which was an opportunity to network, socialize and warm
up for the rest of the week-end. Saturday was the
annual Zaidie Cup football match between JC and St.
George’s alumni. Saturday night was our Alpha Spring
Fling Dinner-Dance. Sunday was reserved for praise and
thanksgiving at church.
SPECIAL THANKS
to ALL who supported our SPRING
FLING DINNER DANCE, STGC/ALPHA Classes of
the 60's Reunion, any and all True Blue Weekend
Activities, April 16-18!
Again, roaring successes and great camaraderie… "Dem
want us to come back next year!" True Words!

JAMAICA
CHAPTER AWARDS CMAAA SOUTH
FLORIDA CHAPTER |
|
On Friday night, May 7, 2010, at
the Jamaica Chapter’s “Woman of
Excellence” Award night at the
Hilton Hotel in Kingston, our
chapter was proud and delighted
to receive an award for
outstanding service and
assistance to our beloved alma
mater, Alpha Academy. President,
Patsy Lee graciously accepted
the award on behalf of the South
Florida Chapter from Maxine
Brown, Jamaica Chapter
President. Patsy emphasized the
need for all alumnae to do more
for Alpha, and to assist in
keeping “the light of Hope”
burning for our ‘little
sisters’. “Without HOPE”, she
said, “it is difficult to go
on”.
|
At the Zaidie Cup annual football (soccer) match-up
between St. George’s and Jamaica Colleges’ Old Boy
Associations, the George’s old foots prevailed over
their J.C. rivals. The main event, however, was
dominated by Jamaica College. Sixties Grad Shirley
Wong (Chang) –see photo below – bravely entered for
Alpha in the All Girls “Penalty Kick-off” – She’s a good
sport! Alpha’s spirit of participation came alive!!

YES…IT'S UP!!!
Last January our
President, Pat Lee, advised of the robbery and break-in
at Mount Mercy, the home of the Mercy Sisters. She made
a plea for donations from the Alumnae to assist with the
erection of a security wall for the compound. The fence
is now a reality with a sense of security and safety.
Your response was tremendous and Sister Bernadette and
the Sisters who are in residence have asked us to
express their deep gratitude for your consideration and
kindness in assisting them with the cost of
the construction.
Contributions are
still being accepted. You may forward to: The
Sisters of Mercy, P.O. Box 970943, Miami, Florida 33197.
For showing compassion and care always,
ALPHA GIRLS ROCK!!
Addy
Chin-Ogilvie took a massive
amount of pictures of the
events. If you wish to see them
all, you may do so. They are

CALENDAR
OF UPCOMING EVENTS |
CMAA Social at The Truck Stop--
JULY 3, 2010 (Shhh. a.k.a.
Addy: Five-0)
The CMAA Annual General Meeting will be on September 18,
2010 – Board Room of the Authur Gallagher Office
Mission Healthy “Alpha” in Kingston, Jamaica
In order for our projected
missions to be accomplished, we
are in great need of your
support. Assistance may be in
the form of word, deed or sowing
of a seed. There is so much yet
that needs to be done for our
beloved high school from which
we have received so much. No
amount or effort is too little.
Big or small, “every mickle
makes a muckle”, so give what
you can; do what you
can…
Whether you are in Jamaica, the U.S.A., Canada or
Worldwide, YOUR ALMA MATER NEEDS YOU!!!
Do some good—get involved and have a BLAST
while doing it! Spread the word...
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
We ask ourselves:
‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented,
fabulous?’
Actually, who are you NOT to be?
We were born to make manifest the Glory of God that is
within us.
And as we let our light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the
same...”
The Committee wishes to express deep gratitude to Nickie
Wong
for the beautiful presentation of this newsletter.
Stay in touch. Get involved.
Support your Alma Mater..

"Your hands have
made me and fashioned me;
give me understanding, that I may learn your commandments."
Psalm 119:73
